Alta banka: how to get your money through AOD
On 30.10.2026 the NBS revoked Alta banka's license, and on 03.11.2026 the court opened bankruptcy proceedings. Deposits of individuals, including foreigners and non-residents, are insured up to 50 000 EUR and are paid out through Banka Poštanska štedionica.

Key points
- Limit: 50 000 EUR per depositor for all of their accounts at Alta combined, including interest. Personal accounts and sole-trader accounts of the same person are counted separately.
- Currency: dinar deposits are paid in dinars, foreign-currency deposits in euros at the NBS middle exchange rate on 03.11.2026 (1 EUR = 117,5698 RSD).
- Who pays: Banka Poštanska štedionica (the paying bank). You don't need to open an account there.
- How: in cash at the counter, or by transfer to your account at another Serbian bank. Transfers abroad are not officially provided for.
- Deadline: you can claim the money within 3 years of the court's decision, i.e. until 03.11.2029.
- Insured: individuals (residents and non-residents), sole traders, and micro, small and medium-sized companies. Not insured include, in particular, large companies and persons related to the bank.
Documents to bring
- Passport (or lična karta, the Serbian ID card).
- The original deposit document: the account or deposit agreement, a savings book, the bank’s account record card (kartica računa — not a payment card), or another document you used to access the money before 30.10.2026.
- If someone else collects the money: a power of attorney certified by a notary no earlier than 30.10.2026. If it is made abroad, it needs a translation into Serbian and an apostille.
- Heirs: the inheritance decision.
- To have euros transferred to an account at another Serbian bank: the details of that foreign-currency account.
If you have more than 50 000 EUR
The amount above the limit has to be filed as a claim in the bankruptcy case (prijava potraživanja, proof of claim) with the Privredni sud u Beogradu (Commercial Court in Belgrade), case 10 St 275/2026, within 90 days of the day the notice is published in the Službeni glasnik (Official Gazette). The form is on the AOD website. Depositors' claims are in the first priority class for repayment. A late claim is still accepted up to 120 days after publication, but you must advance the cost of an additional hearing (Art. 111 of the Bankruptcy Law).
If you had a loan with Alta
Keep paying under your agreement. AOD has given the NBS account 780-282-42; in the “poziv na broj” (payment reference number) field, enter your loan account number. Watch out for fraudulent SMS messages in the name of “AltaPay”.
ALTA GROUP and the AWallet e-wallet
ALTA GROUP is a payment institution, not a bank; its license was revoked on 02.11.2026. Deposit insurance does not cover it, but by law the money of its e-money clients is kept separate from the company's own assets. The procedure for getting that money back has not been published yet.
You need a new account
If Alta was your only account in Serbia, you now have no account, and any bank must open a basic account for you. Start with the steps and the application template.
